The HCWA will be hosting a public Fishing Tournament on Saturday April 29, 2017, at its Tussahaw Reservoir.

The Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) is hosting a Fishing Tournament on Saturday April 29, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at its Tussahaw Reservoir.

Henry County residents, property owners, and Authority customers will be competing in the HCWA Fishing Tournament for prizes that will be awarded to the biggest catch of the day, as well as spots within the top 15. Teams entering the Tournament will include one child between the ages of 6 and 17 and one adult, for the cost of $10 per boat. Lunch will be provided.

The Tussahaw Reservoir is accessible to the public through the HCWA Public Use Area at Tussahaw Island, which is located on Collins Way off Peeksville Road. Tussahaw Island has boat ramps for anglers to access the reservoir, including one accessible to citizens with disabilities. Note: access to the Tussahaw Reservoir is not available through the Tussahaw Water Plant campus, which will be hosting an Open House also on April 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The 1,466-acre Tussahaw Reservoir is the largest and latest of the five reservoirs within the HCWA network of raw water supply. Construction on the Tussahaw Reservoir began in 2004, and the reservoir began supplying raw water for drinking water production at the Tussahaw Water Treatment Plant beginning in 2007.

The Tussahaw and the Upper Towaliga Reservoir are the two reservoirs open to the public during this year’s HCWA Regular Fishing Season, which began on March 1, and continues through the end of November.

During the 2017 HCWA Public Fishing Season, permit holders will have access to the Tussahaw and Upper Towaliga Reservoirs on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Permits to fish these select HCWA reservoirs are available to HCWA customers, as well as Henry County residents or property owners, for $45 at the Authority’s headquarters. An HCWA fishing permit is valid for one full calendar year from the date of purchase, and permit holders can bring a guest to fish with them for free.

“The Fishing Tournament and Regular Fishing Season provide opportunities for kids and families to enjoy the outdoors and the public use facilities we have constructed to benefit the community,” says Lindy Farmer, HCWA General Manager.
